Action and Enigma Codes

Action and Enigma Codes

Enigma codes

These act like small cliff hangers within a film and play a major role within a plot. Enigma codes in films hang questions over the audience’s heads that the feature is not yet answering in that particular scene. These are usually created by a build-up of tension and excitement with a scene leading up to a fight or a murder and then not showing the main event everyone is waiting for. This then leaves questions such as who done it? What happened? What is he/she doing? Leaving the audience guessing. The answer for these questions will be given later on in the film. Or even in another film if it is a series. This intrigues the audience into the film and urges them to keep watching to find out the answers.

Action codes

These codes advances the story or narrative to the next stage with an event that stands out. Events such as a sudden loud noise e.g. a knock on the door or an explosion. This clear signal informs the audience that the story is progressing into the next stage and hints at what’s going to happen.
